AIRPORT PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER

The Springfield Airport Authority is accepting applications for an Airport Public Safety Officer.  This position is responsible for providing law enforcement, aircraft rescue and firefighting, emergency medical and airport operations services for Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. 

Requires completion of 560-hour Basic Police Training Course and Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report and certification from the State of Illinois as a Police Officer (current certification with the Illinois Local Law Enforcement Board may be approved).  Within 9 months of hire, requires completion of 40-hour Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Course, 40-hour medical first responder course, airfield drivers training, wildlife hazard management training and use of pyrotechnics.  Requires familiarity with FAR parts 77, 139 and TSA 1500 series. 

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, as well as possess strong written and oral communication skills.  

A college degree in aviation, criminal justice or fire science is preferred; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of a high school diploma with two years’ experience in law enforcement, security, firefighting or military training.
