A golf outing in memory of former ILACP President Chief Darrell Sanders is being held this October. Retired Frankfort Police Chief Sanders served as the president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in 1993 and held the position of International Association of Chiefs of Police president from 1996 through 1997. Sadly, Chief Sanders passed away on June 29, 2023, after a hard fought battle with liver cancer. 

The memorial golf outing will also help raise funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. Among Chief Sanders's many achievements, Darrell was proudest of his induction into the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Hall of Fame, for his role in raising millions of dollars for the cause. His tireless efforts to support the organization, combined with his love for golf, inspired the creation of the Darrell L. Sanders Memorial Golf Outing. This event, benefiting Special Olympics Illinois, will be held on October 12, 2024, at Lincoln Oaks Golf Course, 395 E. Richton Rd, Crete, IL 60417.
