The New Chief of Police Orientation Program is a four-day intensive leadership program designed to prepare newly appointed police chiefs to navigate the complex realities of modern law enforcement leadership. Now in its 29th year, the program equips executives with the knowledge, tools, and peer network needed to lead with confidence, resilience, and vision.

• Strengthen executive leadership skills essential for today’s policing environment.
• Build resilience and strategies for enduring, surviving, and thriving in the role.
• Provide guidance on critical issues including organizational culture, community trust, officer wellness, and political navigation.
• Create a supportive network of peers and mentors for ongoing professional collaboration.

Format & Structure

• Duration: 4 days
• Location: Embassy Suites, East Peoria, Illinois
• Schedule: Begins Tuesday at 10:00 AM and concludes Friday at 11:30 AM.
• Learning Methods: Expert-led sessions, peer discussions, practical exercises, and reflective journaling.
• Networking: Includes structured networking opportunities and a reception on opening day.

Participant Requirements

To successfully complete the program and earn a certificate, participants must:

• Attend all sessions
• Engage in group discussions and exercises
• Complete daily evaluations and a Personal Learning Journal
