Evanston Police Chief Schenita Stewart, 2025 ILACP Chief of the Year Acceptance Speech

"This award gives me the opportunity to honor and recognize some incredible individuals. I want to start with a woman whose leadership has touched every life she’s encountered: my mother, Marion Stewart Moss, my hero.
She leads with compassion. She inspires through empathy. Her integrity guides every decision she makes, especially for her family. Her strength is her heart. Her leadership is never personal it is purposeful.
Standing just as powerful is my sister, Schonella Stewart. Schonella’s leadership influence is undeniable. She leads not for recognition, but out of compassion, she cares. Her presence has shaped my journey both personally and professionally and I will forever be grateful.
My heart Mrs. Rachael Gravedoni and Sister Napheterie Neal continue to ensure I am fair and respectful in how I lead.
And tonight, I also honor the memory of Detective Allan Reddins. Taken from us in the line of duty, he served with honor, with courage, and with a dedication to protecting others.
This award may carry my name, but it stands on the shoulders of extraordinary individuals who often never get the recognition they deserve. Without them, none of this would be possible. So to them I want to say thank you."
